
Great Circle Books is a fine art publisher focusing primarily on books charting photographic journeys by established and emerging photographers. Great Circle Books was established in 2005 as a new imprint of SWC Editions. Among the books published by SWC Editions since its founding in 1997 are Exhalations/Exhalaciones, a collection of photographs selected by noted photographer Joyce Tenneson, and Almost Perfect, by Wayne Schoenfeld, winner of the 2004 Independent Publishers award for Best Book of the Year. Mission To India: Portrait of a Volunteer Surgical Team in Action written by Rex Weiner with photographs by Wayne Schoenfeld, was the first book on the Great Circle Books list, published in association with American PHOTO Magazine. SWC Editions and Great Circle Books are distributed worldwide by Biblio, a division of National Book Network.

Rex Weiner, a twenty-five year veteran of the media industry, is well known as a journalist, editor, screenwriter and media consultant. Weiner's feature articles have appeared in the New York Times, Vanity Fair, the LA Times Sunday Magazine, The New Yorker and the LA Weekly. He is the co-author of Woodstock Census (Viking), analyzing the impact of the Sixties Generation on American society. As a staff reporter at Variety from 1992-1997 Weiner reported on international film finance and entertainment technology, and his column Lost and Found, appeared weekly in the trade paper. He continues to write for many magazines including Rolling Stone Italia.
As founder and CEO of MediaTek Consulting in 1997, Weiner has provided media relations and marketing consulting to a wide range of companies within the entertainment and technology arena. Weiner is currently a consultant to The Hollywood Reporter for custom publishing.
A long connection with photography, printing and publishing began with Weiner's father, Philip Weiner, a noted journalist and photographer whose work as a member of the New York Photo League is represented in the permanent collection of the Getty Museum. A native New Yorker, Rex Weiner has lived in Los Angeles since 1981 and in Baja California Sur, Mexico, where he owns a 160-year old hacienda in the historic village of Todos Santos and enjoys surfing with his teenaged son.

Wayne Schoenfeld's photographs have been featured in the pages, and on the covers of numerous magazines. With many gallery shows to his credit, and images in private collections around the world, Schoenfeld has published five monograph collections of his work: Brittle Glory documenting years of bloody Kurdish rebellion in Southeastern Turkey; Surface Tension, a collection of traditional black and white figurative studies; Through the Eyes of Man, a collection of tableaux vivant images and social commentary; Almost Perfect, documenting a dedicated team of volunteer surgeons in Vietnam and named Outstanding Book of the Year 2004 by the Independent Publishers Association; Mission To India: Portrait of a Volunteer Surgical Team in Action, published in association with American PHOTO Magazine.
In his wide-ranging career, Schoenfeld has been a psychotherapist, a talk show host, and president of an international airline. He served as the entrepreneurial force behind a partnership for innovative motion picture technologies including the Sarnoff Research Center and Technicolor. He is a member of the photographic art councils of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Santa Barbara Art Museum. He lives in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. |
